What ordinary people can do today to prevent a literal cyberpunk dystopia:
Educate yourself about the technology you use and how it works. This will give you a better understanding of your devices and how to use them to their full potential.
Support organizations and projects that promote open source and free software. These initiatives provide alternatives to proprietary technologies, and allow people to have more control over the software they use.
Vote with your wallet. Whenever possible, choose to buy devices and software that give you the ability to access and modify their underlying code.
Join online communities and forums where people discuss and share knowledge about technology. By participating in these communities, you can learn from others and contribute your own knowledge to help promote a more open and democratic technological future.
Advocate for change. Speak up and let your elected representatives know that you support policies and initiatives that promote open and democratic technology. Join protests and other advocacy efforts to raise awareness and drive change.
